Remlig,Texas was a sawmill town. Located in Jasper County, about 2½ miles East of Brookeland, Texas. The Alexander Gilmer Lumber Company constructed a large lumber mill there in 1905 and named the town Remlig. There were 48,000 acres of virgin long leaf yellow pine to mill into lumber. The mill did not actually start operation until January of 1906. Salaries ranged from 1.55 TO $1.75 per day in 1914, for a ten hour workday. Payday was every second Wednesday of the month, paid in tokens redeemable at the company commissary. Due to the laws concerning use of tokens or scrip the denominations were shown as good for ice. Today the site is covered with briers, mosquitos, and snakes.
