Shave tokens are known from many Texas towns with San Antonio being no exception. This maverick white metal token was purchased some years ago and when researched, proved to be the token of Albert Zillian. Many die sinkers of the day were immigrants which accounts for the numerous errors in spelling on tokens. Zillian is listed in the 1882, 1890, & 1892 Texas Gazateer as a Barber. This piece is incuse (all lettering is stamped) as opposed to being struck (raised lettering) and is uniface (writing on one side only). If a shave and a haircut were truly two bits then this token's value was 12½ cents.
